Twelve healthy adults, including 6 women, completed four hours of simulated work related heat stress in a block randomized, double blind crossover comparing a 55% fructose sport drink against a sucrose sweetened equivalent matched for carbohydrate, calories and electrolytes.
The kidney stress marker rose with heat in both arms and did not differ between drinks.
This is a null safety result on the fructose side of multi carbohydrate fueling, relevant given how often fructose is singled out, but it concerns occupational heat stress rather than racing.
