A conference presentation citing Gatorade Sports Science Institute data reported that 50% of female athletes surveyed consumed zero carbohydrate during training, 43% started workouts already underhydrated, and only 20% replaced sodium losses afterwards. None of the figures can yet be checked against a method section.

In a four site randomized crossover using university dining halls, 36 recreational athletes showed no significant difference in a 12 minute run or composite machine strength between a plant based and an omnivorous month, though the strength interval leaned toward the omnivore diet.

In an eight week randomized placebo controlled trial in older adults, Pediococcus acidilactici PA53 was reported to improve stool consistency by 28% and reduce GI symptoms by 9.5%, with shakier headline gains in happiness and sleep. Every figure currently rests on trade reporting.

FDA filed a white paper proposing a definition of ultra processed food with OIRA on 3 August 2026. As a white paper it carries no legal force, does not preempt state definitions such as California's AB 1264, and its actual criteria are not yet public.

Soy lecithin and DATEM produced dose dependent gut barrier disruption and cytotoxicity at daily exposure doses in gut on a chip models, human colon organoids and mice, with IgE effects in mice and human cells. Not a human study.

In a double blind crossover of 12 healthy adults doing four hours of simulated occupational heat stress, a 55% fructose sports drink and a matched sucrose drink produced the same rise in a kidney stress marker. A useful null on the fructose side of multi carbohydrate fueling, from a June paper.

A new NutriNet-Sante analysis from the Touvier and Srour group looks at food additive glutamate and cardiovascular risk. The digest recorded its existence and provenance; no effect sizes were extracted.

France's food safety agency ANSES reported liver decompensation, kidney failure and transplant in a 54 year old with pre existing liver disease who massively over consumed mass gainer and whey, rating the supplement link very likely for the liver injury.

In a randomized crossover of 13 physically active young men, 800 mg of nitrate from beetroot juice improved peak torque and power by roughly 3 to 4% at two of three tested speeds. Isokinetic strength, not endurance performance.
